Class of Membership

There are 4 classes of membership in the Edmonton Kennel Club: Active, Associate, Honorary and Life.

Active members participate and help support most activities of the Club.

Associate membership is the means of entry into the Club and it requires sponsorship of a Club member. An associate member is one who supports the Club's cause and has voting privileges, but may not hold executive office. Associate members may submit an application to the Executive Board for change of status after one year from the date the original application was approved. Click here for an application form.

Honorary membership is awarded to any person for meritorious service to the Club. Honorary members have no voting rights, pay no dues, and may not hold office. Honorary members are nominated by the Executive Board and elected by the membership.

Life membership: Any past or present member of the Club who has served the Club with distinction may be elected to life membership. A life member must have been a member of the Club for a minimum of 20 years. Nomination for life membership goes first to the Executive Board for approval and is then presented to a general meeting to be voted upon by ballot. A life member has all the privileges of the Club and pays no dues.

It is expected that all Club members will volunteer their help in the Club's activities. EKC holds a four-day shows in August, held under the Canadian Kennel Club rules. It also organizes fun matches, sanction matches, and seminars. In each case, members participate by setting up and taking down the equipment and displays and working as ring stewards, gophers, and drivers.

General meetings are held on the last Monday of each month, January to May and August to November. These meetings consist of part business and part education.

The Edmonton Kennel Club is very well respected by the dog fancy world-wide. The Club has had a number of notable Canadian Kennel Club judges among its members who have judged all over Canada, Australia and the U.S. They include conformation and obedience.

It is not all work. Members enjoy the annual barbecue and Christmas party get-together, and the camaraderie at the dog shows and meetings--a very happy group.
